What is Homoeopathy?

The term homeopathy comes from the Greek words homeo, meaning similar, and pathos, meaning suffering or disease. Homeopathy is an alternative medical system which aims to stimulate the body's own healing responses.

Treatment involves giving extremely small doses of substances that produce characteristic symptoms of illness in healthy people when given in larger doses. This approach is called "like cures like".

What are Homoeopathic remedies?
Homeopathic remedies are derived from mineral, plants and animal sources that stimulate the body's own healing mechanism.  Remedies are diluted substances attained across a series of steps and are supplied in either liquid, pellet, or tablet form.
How do Homoeopathic remedies differ from conventional medicines?
Homoeopathy remedies differ from conventional medicine as conventional medicine must be approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration due to their chemical components. Manufacturers find a chemical that provides a desired response when taken into the body; they then synthesize that chemical for mass production. Homoeopathic remedies are non-addictive, natural and have no side-effects.
What does a visit to a Homoeopath involve?
An initial consultation involves an initial visit of approximately 1hr, during which the Homoeopath will interview the patient extensively about their medical history, family history and general state of mind in addition to delving into the symptoms of the illness that prompted their visit.
On review the Homoeopath will formulate a unique blend of the most suitable homoeopathic remedies for the patients’ condition. This may involve one or more remedies, which can take from twenty minutes to over an hour to prepare, depending on the complexity of the patient’s condition.
A follow-up appointment with the Homeopath is highly recommended, as it is essential to the treatment plan and the restoration of health, including prevention.
Do Homoeopathic remedies have any side effects?
Homeopathic remedies are non-addictive and have no side effects. Sometimes there can be a temporary aggravation of the condition which, needs to be treated - this is normal and demonstrates that the treatment is working.
Can Homoeopathic medicines be taken with conventional medicines?
Yes. Homeopathy is used alongside conventional treatments for chronic illness, acute conditions and can be safely taken with conventional drugs without any adverse effects.

However, if you are considering using homeopathic remedies, you should discuss this with your GP. If you have more than one health care provider, discuss it with each one.
Is Homoeopathy suitable during Pregnancy?
