How will a massage feel?
It usually depends on the techniques used. Your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax superficial muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually increase to relax specific areas and relieve areas of deeper muscular tension. A light oil or lotion is often used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin.

Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that the massage therapist can adjust pressure and temperature or use another approach or technique.
Will the massage oils/lotions cause my skin to break-out?
Our oils and lotions are all natural so they should not cause any break-outs. However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotions please bring it to the massage therapist's attention as most have an assortment of oils and lotions on hand. If you have your preferred oils and lotions you are most welcome to bring these along.
Is a massage always appropriate?
No. There are times when massage is inappropriate and could be harmful. The best to avoid this is to let your massage therapist needs to know about any health problems you have or medications you are taking, in order to rule out any contraindications to massage. It is advisable to mention that you plan or are having massage with your doctor/s.
How long will a massage treatment last?
The full-body massage treatment is 1-hour. Shorter sessions are available for partial massages; these include neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Most patients prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation.
How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed and frequently experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity.

It is also common to experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is possible to be a little achy the day after the massage if you have had deep tissue work done. To minimize this, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.
What should I wear?
For a full body massage, you may choose to either undress to your underwear or undress completely. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.
Is Massage Therapy covered by Insurance?
From experience Massage Therapy is generally not covered under most Insurance Policies. However, it is worthwhile to check with your Insurance Provider and/or Policy to see if it includes alternative or complementary health therapies.
How deep should the pressure be?

The pressure during the massage should be what you want it to be.  It usually depends on the type of massage and what symptoms prompted the visit. Some of the most effective types of massage therapy are gentle and do not involve deep pressure or pain. If you are having deep, specific work on an area, it may be uncomfortable / tender, but it should not be painful.  Massage does not need to be painful to be effective, and if you are in pain, 'handling it' or you are 'bearing it' you are probably tightening up your muscles, which in the end is counter productive to your original goal.

It is important to communicate openly with the massage therapist throughout the session. Massage therapy does not need to hurt to be effective. There are a variety of strokes that can be used, ranging from the most delicate touch with the fingertips to focused deep-tissue work and all strokes can be varied in speed and pressure.

For Pregnancy Massage what position will I be in?
During pregnancy massage the mother's body is properly positioned on her side and supported using pillows and padding, to ensure comfort and safety for both mother and baby. A special pregnancy pillow is also available, allowing the mother to lie safely on her belly (a welcome change by some), without causing excess pressure and while still supporting the associated muscles and ligaments.
Is Pregnancy Massage safe?
Pregnancy Massage Therapists are trained to address the specific needs and concerns of pregnant women. Pregnancy massage is safe in all trimesters although with the naturally higher risk of miscarriage during the first trimester, most women refrain from receiving massage during that time. If you have any concerns, consult your doctor.
How effective is Pre & Post-Pregnancy Massage?
Receiving regular massage helps relieve pregnancy's unique aches and pains caused by extra weight, changing structural alignment, and hormones -not to mention the demands of work, home and family - taking the time to relax and release held tension, ensuring more energy and a greater sense of well-being throughout your pregnancy. It is also a popular complementary therapy when choices for pain relief, such as medication, are often limited.
What areas can pre & post-pregnancy massage therapy effective address?

Back pain is extremely common in pregnancy as well as during the period of breastfeeding or having to carry small children. If you are experiencing symptoms of sciatica it is possible to minimize or resolve it by massaging the lower back and hip area. Poor circulation also affects many pregnant women, and can be helped by a general body massage, which stimulates and improves the blood flow throughout the body. Mid back and neck pain, as well as headaches, are also frequent complaints that you will find can be treated with focused massage techniques.

For women who develop problems sleeping, the soothing effects of massage can help relax and calm. Some pregnant women claim that lightly massaging the abdomen can even help to send the fetus to sleep.

Getting massage every two weeks in the second trimester and weekly in the third trimester will prepare your body for labor and delivery and the demands of a new baby. It is advisable to mention that you plan or are having massage with your GP.

Is it safe to massage the feet during Pregnancy?
You may have heard that you shouldn't massage the foot during pregnancy because it can send you into labor, especially towards the later part of pregnancy, as there are acupressure points in the legs, ankles and feet that correspond to the reproductive system. Pregnancy Massage therapists are trained to recognize and avoid these points, especially within the later parts of pregnancy, so your massage is safe and enjoyable. A professional Massage therapist will always check with you first before doing any treatment on the feet.
