How effective is Osteopathic treatment?
Osteopathic treatment is extremely effective, and it sometimes gets improvements where other therapies have not.
How long will a treatment plan take?

The aim of your treatment is to get you feeling better as quickly as possible, however, treatment plans vary.

Minor (i.e. simple back & neck problems, cervicogenic headaches) complaints can usually be addressed within 3 weeks, with weekly sessions.  More serious conditions will generally require weekly sessions until the symptoms subside, followed by a treatment plan focused on rehabilitation, maintenance and strengthening.

Acute and chronic conditions are so varied and dependent that it is difficult to put a timeframe on treatment. Some acute conditions respond quite quickly to treatment where others can take longer.

Is Osteopathic treatment permanent?

It will come down to lifestyle, ergonomics, how you maintain yourself and strength as to whether treatment will be permanent.

Osteopaths are trained to provide advice on lifestyle changes, increasing patients' awareness of the causes of the problems and giving them the help they need to take responsibility for their own health.

Is it safe to see an Osteopath while Pregnant?

Yes.  Because of the wide variety of techniques and the gentle and calm approach of Osteopathy, it is especially suitable during pregnancy, as well as for the treatment of childhood complaints.

Osteopathy is especially effective in pregnancy related referred pain to the buttocks and thigh due to the shift in biomechanics, gait and weight of the baby.  This can be relieved through gentle osteopathic techniques, looking at aligning the pelvis and releasing ligament sprains and muscular tension.

Do I need a referral to see an Osteopath?
No. Osteopaths are trained as primary health care professionals, so are able to diagnose muscular and joint conditions, as well as serious conditions that may require referral to a GP or other health professional. Osteopaths are trained at recognizing what they can and can't treat.
Is Massage Therapy covered by Insurance?
While there are considerable variations amongst individual insurance policies, most cover Osteopathy and Physiotherapy. However, it is worthwhile to check with your Insurance Provider and/or Policy to see if it includes Osteopathy.
Is Osteopathy safe for elderly patients and children?
Yes. Osteopathy is very safe and effective. Treatment usually requires more gentle techniques, which are appropriate for their delicate and small bodies. All treatment is modified to suit the individual. See our Kid's Health section for more details about Osteopathy for Kids.
What is the proper office set-up to support my back?
The position of your arms, eyes, feet and torso in relation to your office equipment is extremely important in sustaining a healthy posture and in the prevention of injury and illness.

Positioning or using your computer improperly can lead to various injuries, from the short term discomfort of headaches to potentially debilitating conditions like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Please contact us for more information regarding Workstation Assessments & Set-ups.
