Acupuncture, a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), has been used within the primary healthcare system for more than 5000 years and is becoming increasingly accepted within conventional medical circles, especially for the relief of acute and chronic pain.
It involves the painless insertion of ultra-thin single use, disposable needles into specific points on the body called acupoints, the aim to “re-balance” the flow of the body’s energy. Your bodies energy, more commonly known as ‘Chi’, should flow freely and unobstructed, if there are blockages then illness may arise. Establishing good energy flow allows the body to heal itself and restore health.
Acupuncture should not be a painful experience. Upon insertion patients may feel a sensation of tingling, warmth or heaviness. The needles are retained for 20 to 30 minutes, during which time the patient can relax. |
