Osteopathy – is concerned with the manual treatment of joints and soft tissue using gentle muscle relaxation and joint articulation techniques, technically referred to as strain and counter-strain.

The principle of Osteopathy is how your body, joints and muscles are moving, how your nervous system is functioning and how your blood flow and drainage systems are performing.  The function of these systems influences the delicate balance of our neuro-musculo-skeletal system, which can result in altered flexibility, mobility, improved blood supply and drainage, nerve innervation and subsequently symptoms of pain.

Using palpation & diagnostic skills, and a thorough patient examination Osteopaths can diagnose a wide variety of conditions that respond extremely well to manual Osteopathic techniques.

The range of such conditions is wider than commonly supposed. For example, some kinds of headache, asthma and other conditions not apparently connected with the musculo-skeletal system can benefit considerably from osteopathic treatment. Pregnant women who experience pain & discomfort during and after pregnancy also respond particularly well to osteopathic treatment as do children experiencing digestive issues such as colic & reflux.

Treatments are individually devised according to the practitioner's findings and the patient's needs, and may also include advice on lifestyle changes so as to prevent future or recurring problems and injuries.

Osteopaths believe that simply getting patients to keep returning for more treatments is not the best form of long term preventive care. The key to preventing health problems recurring, and to developing long-term solutions, lies in increasing patients' awareness of the causes of problems, and in giving them the help they need to take responsibility for their own health.

The majority of patients will receive maximum benefit from five to seven treatments. Others will need continuing attention to maintain a satisfactory level of mobility and relief of pain. Occasionally a patient will only need to attend once.

Osteopathy is especially effective for:
  • Acute and chronic injuries
  • Asthma
  • Birth Trauma
  • Colic
  • Growing pains
  • Headache
  • Hip or knee pain
  • Low back pain
  • Postural Problems
