Philip graduated from British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy (UK) in Osteopathy and Naturopathy in 1999. He continued working for 4 .5 years in Cranial Osteopathy, specializing in the treatment of children at the world renound Penn Clinic. At this time, he went on to study cranial, and visceral Osteopathy with the top teachers within the United Kingdom. In 2000, he began studying Pilates with polestar and BASI, which he finds to be a very helpful adjuct to his extensive work with rehabilitation and sports injuries. Later he worked as a clinic tutor and teacher of Cranial Osteopathy. Learning pilates changed Philip’s ideas on what he had learnt in Osteopathic School.
With this in mind he spent time in the last few years studying with a number of teachers. The main focus of his work now draws upon a number of scientific disciplines to assist his manual therapy namely, neuroscience, sports and Exercise Physiology, psychology and biomechanics. Over the last 3 years he has successfully used this approach to treat a number of high level sports people including junior squash champions, senior power lifting champion, a lot of martial artists, dancers, yoga instructors, rugby players etc. Philip has just completed a 5 month course in advanced functional medicine testing with the Functional Medicine University (US Naturopaths). This is using scientific laboratory testing to diagnose and treat functional health problems.
The emphasis of Philip’s treatment is to teach patients to maintain good musculosketal health and understand their specific condition. To help them gain independence via education, and exercise prescription. Use the latest scientific research in treatment- so that results can be as affective but as gentle as possible. Reduce the risk of further injury by giving appropriate exercises.
"I originally come to see Philip for pain in my neck and shoulder that had steadily worsened through training for an outrigger canoeing event. Philip very quickly identified instability in my shoulder which I was totally unaware of that had created issues in my neck and all the way down my arm. Bit by Bit he has worked through the issues, that initially allowed me to get back to training and complete my event and ultimately has me exercising pain free. I appreciated the whole body approach that Philip takes to identify and then treat the underlying issue to fully resolve the problem, rather than have it return after treatment only of the symptoms. He provides easy exercises to speed recovery and practical advice on how to train through injury. I have subsequently recommended a number of people with injuries to Philip who have all received successful treatment and spoken positively of the experiences."Jo Orgill
"I’m thrilled at the treatment I’ve received at Balance Health from Philip. Until Philip, none of the other osteopaths and chiropractors I have seen though the years have been able to successfully treat my recurrent neck and back pain. Through his unique approach, he was able to quickly identify the causes of my discomfort and this gave me complete new insight into the weaker areas of my body. We then worked together over several sessions to strengthen and stretch those areas until the discomfort subsided. Since then, I’ve continued training those areas with some stretching exercises and I’ve never had any issues with my neck and back since. Amazing! I would not hesitate recommending Philip to my friends and family" Jason Cheng
