Tell us about the race.
What made you join this race?
I need big goals to keep me focused;) I’ve always wanted to do a 50k trail event as well and this race is 3 hours from my home in the mountains surrounding the Myanmar border.

What kind of training are you doing to prepare for the race?
I’m built for comfort not speed and at age 53 recovery is key. I do 3 runs a week. 2 shorter runs of 5-10k and one longer run of 2.5-3hours. On the days between the runs I swim long and easy.

What are the challenges you are experiencing (if any) training for this?
The challenge is recovery and injury prevention which is why I do 2-4 massages a month minimum to help in the recovery from the training.

As a Triathlon athlete, what is your advice for people who want to join marathons as such?
Just start ... keep consistent and build slow. Give urself a long buildup of 10 months or a year to get to proper shape. This gives you a great goal and plenty of time to let your body build up to the Ironman or a ultra trail run.

What is the best post- race recovery treatment you suggest to athletes?
I suggest lots of massage and acupuncture. Prevention is key. Provide yourself a situation where you can stay healthy and injury free. Also don’t get too mono focused!! Keep times with friends and your family cause this is way more important than the training in the long run. Meditation and visualization to keep your spirit and your chi( life force) from getting to tapped and depleted.
